Les registres de la paroisse Notre-Dame de Québec pour le 13 novembre 1868 font état de l'acte de baptême suivant : 

«B. 214   John Murphy F. G. 53^d Reg^t 

On the thirtieth day of November one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight we the undersigned Priest, Chaplain to Her Majestys's Forces, have baptised, under condition, John born, on the twentieth day of November one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, of the lawful marriage of John Murphy, Private of the Fifty Third Regiment, and of Julia Downey, of this parish. Godfather Joseph Gauvin who have signed with us ; the mother of the child, who was present, could not sign. This act have been read.
